Your questions answered
If you have any queries about the course then please do feel free to contact us and we will answer your individual questions, but here is some of the information that you may need when considering our inspirational Suzuki Music course at Gregynog.
What lessons will my child receive?Your child will have daily individual lessons with Sue or Mary in a small group of children at a similar level. Gain expert tuition in improvisation always hugely popular with children of all levels and ages. Your child will receive group lessons in musicianship at an appropriate level for their stage of playing and age. Also, will have the chance to perform in a Chamber ensemble of Piano, Violin and Cello.
What happens in the evenings? Each evening there will be a concert aimed at young children before bedtime. We encourage everyone to attend as it is crucial for children to be inspired by music that they have heard. Later the music may continue as the teachers always love the opportunity to play together.
What happens in the evenings? After the smallest children are tucked up in bed the babysitters will be on hand to listen out for monsters hiding under beds, the older ones will be able to watch a film and the teenagers can use the Senior Common Room to have more time to play ensemble music with their new friends.
What happens in the evenings? The grown ups can enjoy the surroundings of the house whilst having a drink in the bar. Each night there will be activities planned for parents with a parent talk, musical activities and concerts and a chance to relax after a busy day looking after the children.

Will my family stay in the same room? The accommodation at Gregynog is varied, some rooms are historical with superb views over the gardens and original Arts and Crafts furniture. Other rooms are more basic, but all are clean and comfortable, with all bedding, towels and toiletries provided. All rooms have tea making facilities and bottled water. Care is taken to place families together but bathroom facilities are shared with other families.
Will there be lots for my child to do?We understand that there is a delicate balance needed between learning and fun on a course such as this. There will be time to explore the grounds on our Winter Waterproofs and Wellies Walk as well as an Arts and Crafts room with projects to do in their spare time to keep them entertained.
How will my child benefit?Integral to the Suzuki Method of teaching are residential courses such as ours designed to motivate your child and immerse each family in an atmosphere of music-making. You will be at the heart of the Suzuki family that we will create for the weekend, making life-long friends too.
How will my child make progress?Concerts, improvisation, musicianship as well as individual teaching are all designed to ensure progress. Think of it as a month's work of lessons all rolled into one weekend! Of course there will be performances opportunities scheduled into the programme for your child to perform.

What will my child enjoy most? Here are some comments from the children who came in 2015.
"I loved playing the chamber music, and all the teachers were amazing!" Amy, 16 "Best moment of the course - being in the art room and hearing music going on all around me." Rachel, 12 "This is most definitely the best piano trip yet!" Oliver, 9 My child hasn't been playing for long?Don't worry, all of the teachers on the course are highly experienced teachers and have started many children playing piano. They will adapt their teaching to the needs of your child's age and level of playing to make sure that each child has the right balance of support and challenge.
Will chamber music be too advanced? It sounds very advanced to discuss young children and chamber music, but we will use Suzuki repertoire that they can already play as a basis for this class. Older children will be stretched according to their needs and may be given more challenging music, this is a hugely popular part of our course.
Will there be time to practise?Of course! As Dr Suzuki said "Only practise on the days you eat!" There will be additional pianos for scheduled practise sessions during the day by each child. At the start and the end of each day we suggest additional practise time is booked using one of the 5 pianos available.
