Suzuki in the Summertime!
Early this term we held our Summer Concert in Howell's School Great Hall. From Twinkles, Harry Potter Theme and 'Cello solos, there were wonderful performances galore. One of the highlights of the evening was the Scale Challenge Rondo! This involved the major and minor scales in each key being played by a team of pianists non-stop. All of our pianists have been working on scales this year and the advanced scale challenge was won by Oliver Bourne who spent February half term recording every Grade 8 major and minor scale and arpeggio! It was wonderful to see the children so well-prepared for this concert and even better to hear some second instruments. In particular we enjoyed Ella's 'Cello solo and can see why she has been awarded a music scholarship to the Cathedral School for September, well done Ella. The concert was followed by pizza in the park and time for parents and children to relax after the hard work getting their pieces ready. Next up is the Grand Piano Concert in Bristol the Graduation recordings in June before we all head off to Gregynog for our annual workshop!
Suzuki Cymru on Safari!
Many of our young pianists visited our friends in Marshfield for a Review Safari in March to join Cellists and Pianists in a fun-filled and adventure packed day. Surprises lurked around every corner, "Where is the next concert venue?" and "What will I play when get there?" were questions asked by many except those of us hardy adventurers who dared to come back again! Each concert venue was kept secret until it was time to move on, with the concert repertoire being divulged just before battle (concerts!) commenced before the whole thing being repeated twice more. Nerves were frayed, and small thrill seekers played a total of 27 pieces performed. Special mention must go to our smallest daredevil Matthew who performed at his first public performance and by the end of the day had also played in his third! We must thank Sarah, Graham, Janet and Becky from Marshfield for organising the event and inviting us all to come and take part.
