Join Suzuki Cymru on our Summer Course 4 day workshop from Thursday 23rd to Sunday the 26th of July 2020. The course is suitable for pianists of all ages and abilities and will be held at RAF St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan.  Superb teaching will feature from renowned Suzuki practitioners Sue Bird, Kristinn Örn Kristinsson, Graham Rix and improvisation sessions with the highly acclaimed Neil Birse. The aim of the course is to inspire young pianists and to motivate their further development through a range of activities designed to supplement their learning and also to help them grow in confidence. Here in Wales we believe in ensuring that music remains every child's birthright and not a privilege as is becoming increasingly common, therefore our courses are designed to be highly affordable for all families. Our non-residential course allows families to cater for their own budget or sense adventure from camping (with all the mod cons of course!) through to the various B&B or hotel options within the beautiful Vale of Glamorgan.

Learning Opportunities

Picture
Participants will receive an individual lesson with either Sue Bird or Kristinn Onn Kristinsonn who is one of this year's visiting Suzuki teachers to develop their own personal playing technique. Lessons will provide children and parents with dedicated improvement points designed to compliment your child's regular teacher's advice. Additionally, children will take part in a group lesson which will help to gain ensemble experience through familiar Suzuki repertoire, with additional activities planned for enriching each child's musical experience appropriate to their age and developmental needs. We will also be offering each child the opportunity to experience playing in a piano trio with our very own violin and cellist Charlie MacClure and Hannah Clist , who will be on hand to guide each child regardless of their ability through the process of an ensemble rehearsal. Book 1 & 2 children will play Suzuki repertoire and children in Book 3 upwards can select their own piano trio pieces and children will perform their piano trios in our final concert on Sunday afternoon. Children will also get the chance to  develop their creative skills in a fun and engaging atmosphere as we will be offering jazz improvisation sessions as part of the course.

Family Fun

Each day has some time to get creative in our Art room where children can take time out and get creative, with plenty of craft projects available to interest all ages. Activities will continue into the evenings after the lessons have ended and will feature entertainment and games for the children, whilst the adults have a chance to unwind and chat to other Suzuki families. Evening meals and a picnic lunch each day are provided as part of the course fee and for those families who are camping we will also provide cereal and toast each morning to set you up for the day ahead. Evening concerts will also allow each child plenty of opportunities to develop their performance skills.
